What do you call little bugs that live on the moon???      Luna ticks

  Invitations

  Food - Drinks & Desserts

  • Asteroids - Peanut butter on mini rice cakes. (could top with dots of jelly or crumbled graham crackers, or rice krispies)

  • Moon Balls - Cheetos cheese balls

  • Moon & Star Cookies - using cookie cutouts, make circle shapes with circle and star cutouts.

  • Star Shapes - jell-o jigglers

  • Tang - the drink of the astronauts.

  • Moon & Stars - Use two round cakes - any flavor.  Frost with a dark frosting such as chocolate (or create your own color).  Print and cut out star & moon stencil.  Cut out circle, then follow the lines to cut out the shapes.  After the stars and moon have been cut out, tape the pattern back together at the lines.  Place stencil on top of the frosted cake, and lightly dust with powdered sugar, or yellow sprinkles.

  • Moon Cupcakes - individual cupcakes with chocolate frosting then topped with crushed cookie crumbs.  For a finishing touch, insert a small American Flag on a toothpick.

  • Flying Saucers - from Keebler

Why didn't the moon eat its dinner???       Because it was full

  Decorations

  • Use a black tablecloth.  Cut stars out of heavy tin foil to decorate the table.
  • Use silver foil cupcake liners at each place filled with treats (cheetos, chips, goldfish, m&m's)

  Activities

  • Movies - Lost in Space.
  • How many stars? - Fill a small glass jar with a lid full of bright marbles or jelly beans.  Have each child guess how many marbles are in the jar, the winner takes the jar home.
  • Moon Rock Hunt I - Before the party, hide tinfoil balls throughout the party area, the astronaut who finds the most is the winner.  Another version would be to wrap a small treat inside each tinfoil ball, and that would be their prize.
  • Moon Rock Hunt II -  Spray paint small rocks (2-4 inches across) with  silver spray paint. Before the party, hide the moon rocks throughout the party area.  The child who finds the most  rocks wins a prize.
  • Alien Invasion -  Divide the children into two teams.  Place the two teams about 10-15 feet apart.  Give each team about 20 'Alien Spaceships' (these could be crumpled paper, newspaper or tinfoil balls)  Within a 5 minute time period each team needs to try to get as many aliens as possible to the other team's side, this would include their original 20, along with any that the other team throws.  The team with the fewest alien spaceships is the winner.
  • Make an Alien balloon sculpture for each guest.
  • Pluto Putty - Use the recipe for silly putty.
  • Universe in a Jar - Make a mini water globe.
  • Moon Walk - this is a great theme for incorporating a rented moonwalk

  Goodie Bags

  • Mini alien toys, books on space, small space lego sets
